An opportunity to work with carnival artist and Mestre Chris Lewis-Jones (formerly Artistic Director of Sambawamba International Carnival Arts company and Musical Director of Nottingham School of Samba).
We shall explore a variety of rhythms and patterns, traditional and contemporary, from Brazil and elsewhere, and processional skills. The workshops will be on the 2nd and 16th September, from 1.30-4.30pm, and will be free. The workshops will culminate in a procession, which we shall lead, as part of Derby Festé 2023, on the evening of September 23rd.
No previous experience of bateria music making or processions are needed. All welcome!
