Derby City Comedy Club Presents: Shazia Mirza

03/05/2024, 7.30pm
RockCentral Promotions and Déda are proud to present: Derby City Comedy Club. For 5 years, Rockcentral have been producing award nominated comedy shows across the East Midlands and now we bring Comedy to the heart of Derby’s Cathedral Quarter.
Hosting the night is Derbyshire’s very own Anthony Williams. Sought after compere at clubs up and down the country, Anthony will host a terrific line-up of comedy.

Dawn Bailey
Opening the show is the award winning Dawn Bailey. Dawn is a forty something (ahem just turned 50) Mum who views life through happy specs and giddy knickers (her own words). An original performer, Dawn won the XS Manchester Radio Comedian of the Year in 2016, which led to her presenting a show on the station. A likeable and affable nature, Dawn is a regular on the UK comedy circuit and performs for some of the most reputable promoters in the Country.
Dawn’s honesty regarding life and love are raw, straight to the point and comes with a no-holds-barred delivery. She is a merry maker and definitely loves to have a damn good chuckle
“Pin sharp anecdotes from a life juggling a career, kids, attending weekly slimming club meetings and the joys of involuntary flatulence… she’s a very funny lady”- The BBC

Stevie Gray
Our second act, Oldham-born Stevie Gray is a cheeky and very likeable comedian. Stevie’s stage act fuses jokes, music, news stories and audience participation to create an up-tempo energy in any room. Stevie has appeared all over the UK, playing the Edinburgh festival, the Comedy Store, Jongleurs, Glee as well as making regular MC appearances for Funhouse Comedy, RockCentral, ROFL and all the major Comedy Clubs across the UK.
‘… the cheeky and friendly Stevie Gray with his boundless energy and mix of news, music and comedy…’ (Funhouse Comedy).

Shazia Mirza
Our headline act is none other than Shazia Mirza. A household name thanks to her numerous TV appearances, Shazia began stand up comedy in September 2000 and has in a very short space of time worked her way up the ladder picking up along the 2001 Hackney Empire Best New Act competition at the London Comedy Festival part of the prize was to appear at The Palladium. This year Shazia followed this up by winning Metro Magazine’s People’s Choice Best Comic Award at the London Comedy Festival 2002.
Shazia’s distinctive act combines a deadpan delivery with observation on her world. Shazia is in certain respects a revolutionary figure being the UK’s only female Muslim stand up, a job which many in her culture would frown upon. This enables her to have a unique perspective as a British Muslim with her material crossing both cultures. Supported by many in her culture Shazia has recently won the award of Young Achiever Of The Year at the Government’s initiative for the Asian community, The Leadership & Diversity Awards.
