Profile

Co-Lab (Collaborative Laboratory) is an opportunity for creative organisations, makers, artists, and practitioners from across the region to meet, network and learn more about the upcoming collaborative opportunities at Derby Museums.

We’ll be discussing, creating, and sharing ideas for ‘First Fridays’, a series of proposed monthly after-hours talks, workshops and performance-based events at the Museum of Making, which will be co-produced with local creative organisations, makers and artists.

Each First Friday will be a unique stand-alone event, and we want to invite those making and creating in the city to share their thoughts, ideas and discuss what these events might be and how might we encourage collaboration.

As part of the event, we’re inviting creative individuals and organisations to bring along one item, which they feel best represents themselves or their work. This will form part of a pop-up exhibition in the museum for the evening, with the overall aim to curate a snapshot of the different artistic activities taking place within Derby.

Co-Lab at the Museum of Making takes place between 6pm and 9pm on Friday 3rd September.

6pm till 6.45pm – An opportunity to explore the Museum of Making, document any initial reactions, inspirations and ideas and place your item into our pop-up exhibition.

6.45pm till 7.15pm – Network and share ideas with members of Derby’s creative community in the Civic Hall, with a drinks reception with Derbyshire platters from The River Kitchen.

7.15pm till 9pm – First Fridays Co-Lab Session, step into the Italian Mill and share your thoughts and ideas for First Fridays and meet the team, in an informal workshop and sharing session, led by our Events Programmer and Derby Museums staff.
