Step back in time for a ROOARSOME Jurassic Day Out in Cathedral Quarter!
Saturday 23rd July sees Derby’s Cathedral Quarter taken over by dinosaurs, with dozens of chances for visitors to immerse themselves in a truly Jurassic experience!
The day has been organised by the Cathedral Quarter Business Improvement District (BID), which has released more details of what families can expect when they venture into the city centre.
From learning how to train your own dinosaur and meeting their adorable babies, to tracking them down in the new Forest of the Future and following their tracks around Derby’s Museum of Making, visitors will be able to spend the day reliving the Age of the Dinosaur.
From 11am on Cathedral Green, families can train to become Dino Rangers, learning how to teach the likes of Zeus, Europe’s largest T-Rex, and Emily Bronty the Brontosaurus how to behave, while enjoying a break between training sessions and enjoying an exclusive ‘Dino doughnut’, for sale on Derby firm Project D’s pop up stall.
Whilst the adult Dinos are being trained, visitors can take the opportunity to do a bit of Dino Day-care and catch a sneaky peek at the cute and sleepy dinosaur hatchlings outside Derby Cathedral!
Wherever you look, the streets of the Cathedral Quarter will be filled with photo opportunities for families to capture memories of an era long gone, with a range of baby dinosaurs with their rangers, a raptor and a Carnotaur stalking the alleys and interacting with the public.
A tell-tale, accessible trail of dinosaur footprints will intrigue and fascinate visitors, leading them from the Forest of the Future on the Market Square down Iron Gate towards Derby Cathedral, then on to Amen Alley and the Dino arena on Cathedral Green.
Eve Taylor, Cathedral Quarter Business Improvement District (BID) Project Executive, is delighted at the level of involvement that local businesses are demonstrating; “Saturday 23rd July will be a really exciting day to be exploring the Cathedral Quarter, and I’m sure that a lot of shops will be doing their best to make it a unique experience. It will be an ideal day out for families to hunt down their very own dinosaur and discover the wealth of hidden gems in our business community.”
Several Cathedral Quarter shops are also getting involved, by offering discounts throughout the day with a flyer that visitors will be provided on the day. One outlet, Tubo Gift Shop, is even running its own Dinosaur Hunt, with participants having the chance to win a special knitted dinosaur toy by spotting Dinos hidden in the windows of local shops.
On what will be a truly memorable day in the Cathedral Quarter, visitors are encouraged to share their photos and memories of the day with the Cathedral Quarter BID on social media using the hashtag #CQDINODAY.
Save the date in your diary to visit ‘A Jurassic Day Out in Cathedral Quarter,’ from 11am to 4pm on Saturday 23rd July.
