Profile

Artists Heidi Luker and Lise Bennett have been funded by the National Lottery and Arts Council England to work collaboratively on a site-specific research and development project, Ambergate Wireworks – The Part They Played. A co-production with Derby’s Museum of Making, the project will explore visual artistic responses to how the Ambergate Wireworks (Johnson & Nephew Ltd), changed the course of communication technology, engineering, warfare & farming throughout the world through an immersive installation.

Over a series of five drop-in wire sculpting sessions in the Museum of Making, they will introduce people to simple methods of sculpting or ‘drawing’ with wire using a pair of pliers. They’d also love to hear from and interview any ex-workers who want to share their stories of working in the wireworks and will be happy to do so during the sessions. For this fourth session, Heidi and Lise will be looking at the themes of planes, trains and automobiles, linking to items in the collection at the Museum of Making.
