Profile

Artists Heidi Luker and Lise Bennett have been funded by the National Lottery and Arts Council England to work collaboratively on a site-specific research and development project, Ambergate Wireworks – The Part They Played. A co-production with Derby’s Museum of Making, the project will explore visual artistic responses to how the Ambergate Wireworks (Johnson & Nephew Ltd), changed the course of communication technology, engineering, warfare & farming throughout the world through an immersive installation.

Over a series of five drop-in wire sculpting sessions in the Museum of Making, they will introduce people to simple methods of sculpting or ‘drawing’ with wire using a pair of pliers. They’d also love to hear from and interview any ex-workers who want to share their stories of working in the wireworks and will be happy to do so during the sessions.
