Welcome in spring by creating your very own ‘creature crib’, for your garden visitors on this woodworking taster day course, perfect for beginners.

Andy Miller, trained theatre designer and practitioner, and the Museum of Making’s Workshop and Studio Technician with over 40 years industry experience, will introduce and guide you through foundational woodworking skills and techniques, from measuring to sawing to chiselling and more. You will have the opportunity to use a range of workshop tools and equipment to create a bespoke habitat, from bird to bug houses!

You will also discover fascinating connections to Derby Museums’ collections, gaining greater insight into traditional processes and Derby’s manufacturing heritage.

 

Who is this course for?

This course is perfect for complete beginners, as well as those who may have some woodworking experience. All levels of experience are welcome!

Participants must be aged 16 years and over, and those aged 16-17 must attend with an accompanying paying adult.

 

Do I need to bring anything?

All materials, tools, equipment and aprons will be provided. However, we encourage you to bring any photos or drawings you would like to use as inspiration.

Please wear comfortable clothes that you don’t mind getting a bit dirty and closed-toe shoes.

Lunch is available to purchase from the River Kitchen at the Museum of Making or various eateries and shops in the city centre.

 

How to book:

Spaces are limited to 6 participants. Museum of Making Members, Friends and Staff can claim a 10% discount.

Course booking terms and conditions:

Workshop and course bookings can be cancelled and refunded up until 2 days before the scheduled start date.

 

*Please note, this event may be subject to change dependent on the latest Government guidance relating to Covid. In the event that Derby Museums needs to cancel a workshop for any reason, your ticket will be refunded in full.
