About this workshop:
This is an introductory workshop to hot forge work, perfect for those looking to try their hand at metal fabrication and basic blacksmithing techniques. Over the course of the day, experienced metalworker Colin Joyce will teach you how to heat, cut and shape mild steel bar to create your own bespoke piece, from small, forged key-rings, to pendants to bottle openers.
You will use a variety of equipment in the Museum of Making workshop, including the forge and traditional blacksmithing tools, as well as take inspiration from makers of the past in our historic museum setting.
Who is this course for?
This course is perfect for complete beginners, as well as those with some metal working experience. Participants must be aged 18 and over.
Spaces are limited to 6 participants. Museum of Making Members, Friends and Staff can claim a 10% discount.
Do I need to bring anything?
All materials, tools, equipment and aprons will be provided. However, we encourage you to bring any photos or drawings you would like to use as inspiration.
Please wear comfortable clothes that you don’t mind getting a bit dirty and strong closed-toe shoes (steel toecaps are preferable).
