Discover Dragons, Dancing & St George in this free family event in Derby’s city centre.

Derby’s annual St George’s Day celebrations highlights English heritage and culture in all its eccentricities.

Watch as The Lost Boys bring the legend of St George and the Dragon to life with their tongue-in-cheek take on the myth of England’s patron saint – with lots of laughs and audience participation in a free outdoor performance.

Join in with the community ceilidh or dance the maypole and weave the magical colours in time with the music. Watch the Morris and clog dancers bring ancient traditions to the city’s streets with music and dance. Learn how the medieval knights train for their tourney’s and shoot the English longbow with trained instructors to get that bullseye!

Market Place Performances

12noon – Civic Welcome

12:05 pm – A tongue-in-cheek re-telling of the story of ST GEORGE AND THE DRAGON from The Lost Boys with audience participation and lots of laughs

12.50 pm – PECSAETAN (Peck-suh-tan) women’s Cotswold Morris side with traditional dances from the region.

1 pm – ST GEORGE CEILIDH with Community Band. Join in the ceilidh dance with experienced instructors from FOLK3D – great fun!

1:10 pm – HEART OF OAK MORRIS

1:20 pm – STONE MONKEY SWORD

1:30 pm – MAYPOLE MOVERS

1:50 pm – RYKNILD RABBLE MORRIS

Market Place Events

11 am – 3 pm – HAVE A GO LONGBOW ARCHERY
Experience shooting the famed English Longbow, learning the skills synonymous with the legend of Robin Hood. Test your mettle with a wide range of bows suitable for all ages and abilities, under the expert tuition of our trained instructors. Do you have what it takes to strike the bullseye?

TEAM FALCHION Medieval Re-enactors
Displays of Armour and Medieval Combat from 14th-Century Medieval Combat group Team Falchion with a section to get involved yourselves.

11 am – 11:45 am Warm up and Training

11:45 am – 12noon Arming the Knight

12noon – 12:45 pm Fight Demonstrations

1:15 pm – 2 pm DO YOU WANT TO BE A KNIGHT?
For children and adults big enough to hold a plastic sword, learn a little of the art of sword fighting. Parents/Guardians need to be present to sign a disclaimer.

2 pm – 2:45 pm Tourney & Melee
