Arthur Scott will lead you through creating your own stained-glass panel, you will be taken through the process of designing and composing your piece. You will learn the traditional skill of copper foiling and supporting knowledge in order to create your own beautiful panel. During the design process, you will consider how the light will interact with your piece and where you might place it.
You will be given a design platform (200mm X 300mm) with which to work. Feel free to research and develop ideas before the course begins; the practicalities of achieving any design will be discussed during the course. Feel free explore the possibilities of stained glass prior to the sessions. Please note, this course does not include glass painting.
You will also discover fascinating connections to Derby Museums’ collections of making, which chart the progress of Derby’s ongoing manufacturing history and the people who were involved.
This course will take place over 4 weeks, one 3-hour session per week.
All materials, tools, equipment and aprons will be provided.
Please wear comfortable clothes that you don’t mind getting a bit dirty and strong closed-toe shoes (steel toecaps are preferable).
Lunch is available to purchase from the River Kitchen at the Museum of Making or various eateries and shops in the city centre.
Tickets are priced at £175 per person. Derby Museums Friends and Members are eligible for 10% discount. Booking is essential.
