It could be said that physics underpins all sport but does it play a greater role in some Olympic sports?
This talk takes an overview of the role physics plays and whether there is a limit to what athletes can achieve. The approach is descriptive rather than analytical, although the odd equation may slip in.

About the Speaker
Stephen spent many years working at Rolls-Royce in a variety of roles including the design of reactor cores, project management and process improvement before returning to manage the reactor core design department. Following a reorganisation, Stephen opted for a complete career change and trained as a teacher, where he spent an enjoyable few years trying to persuade the, sometimes reluctant, students of the benefits of science. Following his retirement he has continued to promote the benefits of physics as the Chair of the IOP Derby Centre.
