Derby’s Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) make a clean sweep, in support of the Great British Spring Clean

The recent Cathedral Quarter and St Peters Quarter Business Improvement Districts (BID) Tidy Days, in support of the Keep Britain Tidy national campaign – ‘Great British Spring Clean’, saw volunteers from almost a dozen companies across both BIDs collect over 40 bags of rubbish, along with several abandoned trolleys and other items, from the city centre streets.

On Tuesday March 21, Cathedral Quarter were joined by volunteers from Rotheras Solicitors, Smith Partnership, BEAR, Family Law Group and Derby Cathedral, coming together to litter pick, tidy several areas, clean windows, and remove gum from the pavements.

The St Peters Quarter clean took place on Thursday, March 23 and saw them joined by employees of McDonalds, Nielsen McAllister, Milestone House, and the Padley Hub to take part in clearing the area of discarded rubbish.

Derbyshire Police, Derby City Council’s Streetpride team, local councillors, and Public Protection Officers also supported the volunteers on this great initiative. During the day, tasks such as sticker and fly-poster removal, weeding and cleaning the frontage of businesses were also tackled.

Brad Worley, The Cathedral Quarter and St Peters Quarter BID’s Manager, was impressed at the turnout: “We work really hard to help keep Derby clean and we were pleased to be joined by so many of our local businesses to get behind this national event. We really made a difference – and had fun, too!”

The Great British Spring Clean is back for its eighth year and is the nation’s biggest mass-action environmental campaign.

Gemma Pindard, Project Executive for St Peters Quarter BID, was also delighted. “It is very gratifying to see so many of our local businesses coming together. We are grateful for their terrific support with our Great British Spring Clean litter pick. We host litter picks monthly and would encourage anyone wanting to get involved to speak to us.
